Cut’N’Paste Weed Gels Supports Weed Action’s “Mega Moth Plant Movement”

This November, Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust has launched the Whangārei Heads Mega Moth Plant Movement, a crucial initiative aimed at battling the invasive moth plant (Araujia hortorum) that threatens New Zealand’s native ecosystems. Cut’N’Paste Weed Gels is proud to support this important campaign with a generous donation of their highly effective weed control products.
Moth plant, introduced to New Zealand in the 1880s, has become a major problem in Northland, particularly around Whangārei Heads, Parua Bay, and Pataua. It’s known for its rapid spread and ability to smother native plants, making it a formidable adversary. But with the right knowledge and tools, local residents can take control.
Robyn Bigelow, Chair of Weed Action, explains, “The campaign is a 5-year Mega Moth Plant Movement to engage the Whangarei Heads community to tackle this very invasive weed. Moth plant has become a major problem on our Public Conservation Land of Bream Head, Manaia, Kauri Mountain, and Reotahi, let alone on road verges and private property.”

She continues, “Weed Action works across a 10,000 ha area and, as a Charitable Trust, we do what we can within our funding constraints. The Mega Moth Plant Movement requires community engagement. To help with this, we are getting signage done and sending out flyers to the community, sharing methodology and advice about how to deal with this problem. We recently held a community event (image 1) where we handed out advice, information and Cut’n’Paste to residents keen to tackle the problem.”
Cut’N’Paste Weed Gels Donates Products
Cut’N’Paste Weed Gels is thrilled to contribute to the campaign by donating 100 Weed Gel bottles with caps and 20L of Cut’N’Paste MetGel Weed Gel with a pump, providing local residents with the tools they need to manage moth plant infestations effectively. The gels are designed for targeted application, enabling quick, easy, and efficient removal of this invasive plant.
We applaud the efforts of the Weed Action volunteers and landowners who are making a difference in their community and are proud to assist in making their work even more successful. The Mega Moth Plant Movement runs from November to January, encouraging locals to Stop the Pods by removing moth plants early.
