Picloram Plus + Weed Gel

From $36.56 ($31.79 ex GST)

NEW Cut’n’Paste Picloram Plus + Weed Gel contains powerful selective herbicides used for controlling tough broadleaf and woody weeds.

Using  a combination of salts, the two active ingredients target weeds in different ways to produce a more effective and long-lasting result. When combined, these ingredients create a synergistic effect that broadens the spectrum of weeds controlled and increases soil activity. This is particularly effective for hard-to-kill and perennial species.

Typical uses of Picloram Plus + Weed Gel

  • Controlling difficult-to-manage broadleaf and woody weeds.
  • Clearing brush and regrowth in pasture, rangeland, and non-crop areas.
  • Targeting specific weeds such as thistles, lantana, gorse, broom, ragwort, and blackberry.
  • See below for a detailed list!

With Cut’n’Paste Gels, you target your weeds, not yourself or your neighbours properties – there’s no spray, no drift!

Description

Cut’n’Paste  Picloram Plus + Weed Gel now contains two active ingredients:

  • Picloram (as the potassium salt)
  • Aminopyralid (as the triisopropanolamine salt)

How they differ

Picloram Plus +

  • Belongs to the pyridine carboxylic acid herbicide group (synthetic auxins).
  • Strong activity on deep-rooted and woody plants.
  • Persistent in soil (residual control), moves down into root systems.
  • Very effective on species like gorse, broom, blackberry, wattles.

Aminopyralid

  • Same herbicide family (synthetic auxin) but with a different substitution pattern, which changes its spectrum.
  • Especially active at very low rates on thistles, ragwort, docks, and broadleaf weeds in pasture.
  • Has a slightly different movement in the plant compared with picloram — it can translocate efficiently into growing points and roots.

Why they’re combined in Cut’n’Paste Picloram Plus + Weed Gel

  • Broadened spectrum: Aminopyralid strengthens activity on broadleaf weeds that Picloram is weaker on. Together, they cover a much wider range of woody weeds and pasture weeds.
  • Synergy: The two auxinic herbicides interact to give more consistent kill — aminopyralid boosts uptake and movement in some species, improving the overall effect.
  • Lower resistance risk: While both are auxins, mixing two similar but not identical actives helps reduce the chance of weeds developing reduced sensitivity.
  • Residue balance: Aminopyralid is less persistent in soil than picloram, so the mix tempers the long residual activity while still giving reliable root kill.

Aminopyralid “sharpens” the activity of picloram — it makes the gel more effective on a broader range of woody and broadleaf weeds, improves systemic movement into root systems, and ensures higher kill rates on species where picloram alone can be patchy.

Weeds where aminopyralid strengthens control

  • Thistles (Scotch, nodding, winged, Californian) — aminopyralid is extremely potent, even at low doses.
  • Ragwort — picloram can be patchy; aminopyralid ensures strong control.
  • Docks (broad-leaved and curled) — aminopyralid moves into root systems better than picloram.
  • Clover, lucerne and other legumes — aminopyralid gives very strong suppression (relevant in pasture).
  • Broadleaf pasture weeds generally — aminopyralid extends the activity beyond just woody targets.

Woody and scrub weeds where the combo improves kill rates

  • Gorse & broom — picloram is strong, but aminopyralid helps with regrowth and seedlings.
  • Blackberry — aminopyralid improves systemic action, particularly on the crown and suckers.
  • Wattles & acacias — combination ensures more consistent translocation to roots.
  • Wild roses, privet, hawthorn — aminopyralid assists with uptake into root collars.

Why this matters in Cut’n’Paste Picloram Plus + Weed Gel

  • Cut’n’Paste Plus+ Picloram Weed Gel was good on gorse, broom, blackberry, but weaker on thistles and ragwort.
  • Adding aminopyralid to Cut’n’Paste Plus+tm Picloram Weed Gel means one product can handle both woody weeds and tough broadleaf weeds, especially in pasture or mixed infestations.
  • This makes it more versatile for stump treatment, basal bark application, and spot painting where a wide weed spectrum is present.

Residual Persistence (in soil)

  • Picloram
    • High persistence (months to years, depending on soil and rainfall).
    • Moves in soil water; can affect replanting options.
    • Provides long-term suppression of woody seedlings.
  • Aminopyralid
    • Moderate persistence (generally weeks to months).
    • Moves well in plant tissue but degrades faster in soil than picloram.
    • Reduces the chance of overly long soil contamination compared with picloram alone.

Overall

  • Picloram gives deep-rooted woody control + long soil residual.
  • Aminopyralid gives broadleaf weed spectrum + stronger systemic kill but is shorter-lived in soil.
  • Together in Cut’n’Paste Picloram Plus + Weed Gel you get:
    • More reliable control of both woody scrub and broadleaf weeds.
    • A balanced residual profile: long enough to prevent regrowth, but not excessively persistent.

Aminopyralid adds the thistle–ragwort–dock spectrum to the strong woody-weed control of picloram, while also improving consistency on gorse, broom, blackberry, and wattles.

It’s as easy as 1 2 3

    1. Cut the weed down to about 50mm above the ground and apply immediately.
    2. Take your bottle in hand and holding it upside down, gently squeeze a layer of the green gel onto the whole surface of the cut stem and some of the surrounding bark. If there are exposed roots extending from the weed, scrape off some of the surface and apply gel here too, especially with highly coppicing trees.
    3. Wave your weeds goodbye…
