Which Weed Gel Do I Need?

Cut’n’Paste Herbicide Gels

With Cut’n’Paste products, say bye-bye to a wide range of persistent shrub and tree weeds such as: Wooly Nightshade, Ivy, Willows, Lantana, Ginger, Convulvulus, Boneseed, Boxthorn, Thistles, Inkweed, Kikuyu, etc. wherever you might find them – in bush reserves, riparian plantings, rockeries, your rose garden, conservation projects, and beyond.

Every home and garden needs Cut’n’Paste Weed Gels! Our Original gel use only 1% APG surfactants which have extremely low toxicity to animals. MetGel, Picloram, Bamboo Buster, and Glimax have no surfactants at all and negligible toxicity to soil organisms.

Most leafy weeds are easily treated by smearing Cut’n’Paste Original by holding the leaf flat on your palm. You can also simply use the brush to smear onto stems as you see in the photo to the right.

All the other weeds, that have strong stems, are treated by making a level flat cut near the ground and immediately applying a good 3mm layer of one of our other four gels.

But which herbicide weed gel do you need?

Chinese privet, Rhamnus, Barberry, Hawthorn and most woody plantsBamboo Buster or Picloram for stumps. Original if applying to the leaves of very small plantsCut the shrub or tree close to the ground and paste the whole area of the stump and especially the outside perimeter. Paste any exposed roots after scraping off the bark. When the stem or truck of the shrub or tree is small, less than 1cm, paste the underside of a couple of the top leaves rather than cutting the stem.
GorseBamboo Buster or Picloram GelCut and paste the main stems as close to the ground as possible and also paste any small shoots below the cut.
Willows, Yucca and and other weeds that grow readily from cuttingsBamboo Buster on both of the cut ends. The end of the cutting must also be pasted or it will re-sprout in contact with the ground if dropped. If putting the cuttings on the compost apply paste to the cut ends to prevent re-growth.
Bamboo species. There are over a 1000 species of bambooBamboo Buster of courseBamboos are particularly hardy. Use Bamboo Buster. See Bamboo Buster product for specific instructions. Paste Immediately after cutting.
Convolvulus, Thistles, Inkweed, Boneseed, dandelions and other herbaceous plants.OriginalSimply paste the underside of the top, youngest 2 or 3 leaves. Take care to avoid pasting leaves that overhang desirable plants in case of run off. Use your own experience and judgement as to how many leaves to paste depending on the size of the plant.
Agapanthus. Takes quite some time to die offFor small clumps Bamboo Buster is effective. For more extensive clumps use MetGelWith small agapanthus plants, a bean sized blob of the gel is best placed in the very centre of the growing point for new leaves or pasting some of the underside of the young leaves. Where clumps are very large and dense, a large number of the growing centres will need to be cut and pasted with MetGel.
Kikuyu, Couch, Paspalum, Climbing Asparagus.OriginalFor grasses and other flimsy plants apply the gel using a rubber glove to wipe a thin smear up the leaves near the growing tip.
Jasmine. Morning Glory.Bamboo Buster or MetGelFor plants with long spindly runners, gather together the largest bunch you can of runners and tie off with two ties. Cut the bunch between the two ties and generously paste the cut ends on both side of the cut.
Japanese honeysuckle, Old Man’s Beard, English Ivy, Vines and all other large vinesGlimax ProfessionalFor plants with single vines. Cut about 4 inches from the ground and paste the bottom end and wipe gel down the scraped stem to the ground so that the stem will also absorb the gel. If you can’t find the end that goes to the ground just paste the scraped exposed stems for 4 – 6 inches.
Ginger, and other plants with Rhizomes or Bulbs, like Arum LilyMetGel. If you are close to a water course use Bamboo BusterExpose the rhizomes or bulbs and cut through near the ground and liberally apply the gel
Moth plantMetGel.Cut and paste the stems if no pods are present, or if pods are present, scape off some of the bark and apply to the wounded stem as the viability of developing pods can also be severely affected
Wooly Nightshade or Tobacco WeedPicloram gel (or Bamboo Buster if natives are close by)Cut close to the ground and paste the exposed tissue immediately. Don’t use MetGel as it’s ineffective on the Solanaceae family of plants
