Do you have knowledge of how can we get rid of this?
We pulled out a plant last year climbing across a fence about 4-5 metres long. As we had pulled out its trunk and lots of large roots we assumed we’d probably killed it. However this year it is sprouting everywhere around where the original plant had been and in areas up to about 3 metres away. We have tried spraying the new shoots with Glyphosate Max 480 which kills it off temporarily. The new growth also grows extremely fast and from same area that we had sprayed and killed.Hi Basilandsuey, thanks for your question.
The trick here is to stop spraying and start drilling or do some ‘notched’ pasting.
1. Find the ‘Hubs’: Look for the thickest points where the new shoots are emerging.
2. Cut and Apply: Cut the shoot as close to the ground as possible and immediately apply a thick layer of MetGel or a or Picloram or Picloram Plus*, to the fresh cut.
3. The Drill Method: If you can find any remaining large underground roots, drill a few shallow holes into them and fill them with paste.This forces the herbicide directly into the ‘circulatory system’ of the roots rather than relying on the leaves to absorb it.
* Note: Use caution where natives or other prized plants are nearby. Picloram is very powerful and can translocate through the roots and into the soil. If you have “wanted” plants within a few metres, we recommend using Bamboo Buster or Original. They contain Glyphosate, which is still good for killing vines, but also safer for nearby plants as it deactivates on contact with the soil.
