I would love to get rid of a neighbour’s clumping bamboo that is on our side of the fence while leaving what is growing on their side unharmed. Is that possible if I cut and paste the stems on our side, or would it harm the rest of the plant on their side too?
Hi Susi! Great question. With clumping bamboo, the individual culms (stems) are all connected via a shared rhizome system. If you use a systemic herbicide like Cut’n’Paste on the cut stems on your side, there is a significant risk that the chemical will travel through the rhizomes and damage or kill the sections on your neighbor’s side. Although this might work for you, they might not be too pleased! Could you perhaps go and have a chat with them and tell them about the negative qualities of this awful invasive weed? If you can get their permission, Bamboo Buster will be your new best friend. Best wishes.
